Collins wins 4A title 37-34

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Browning Becherer threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Sames with seven seconds remaining in the game to knock off Highlands 37-34 in the KHSAA Class 4A championship game Saturday.

Collins won its first state championship in a rematch of last year's title game, avenging a 47-0 loss. Highlands had won five straight state championships.

Becherer entered the game to throw the winning TD pass only after quarterback Lawson Page lost his helmet on the previous play and had to sit out a play. Page completed 15-of-23 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 108 yards. Ryan Watkins ran for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Sames caught six passes for 73 yards and two scores.

Highlands running back Zach Harris scored three times and rushed for 103 yards. Quarterback Drew Houliston threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns.
