LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Junior college transfer Cory Johnson is amazed by the size of freshman Matt Elam. Both will be in the mix at defensive tackle when Kentucky opens the season Saturday.
After Wednesday's practice, Johnson, who weighs in at about 300, talked about what it's like to play alongside the 375 pound Elam.
"Once he throws that stomach forward, it's hard to get your hands on that thing. You can't grip a stomach, so he just goes straight through everybody. That's like a wrecking ball trying to jump in front of, you can't stop that."
Johnson and Elam will not start Saturday, but both will see action backing up Melvin Lewis and Mike Douglas.
Kickoff for Kentucky's opener with UT-Martin is at Noon Saturday. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.
