LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Former UK big man DeMarcus Cousins was injured on Thursday during a Team USA basketball practice. Cousins was helped off the court while favoring his right leg.
The incident occurred when Cousins was going for a loose ball.
Jerry Colangelo, director of Team USA, said he’s hopeful that Cousins will be okay, but that the Kings center would miss Saturday’s game against Brazil. Colangelo said Cousins will have a precautionary MRI on his leg.
Cousins’ injury comes after Paul George suffered a horrific leg fracture during a scrimmage on Aug. 1 and after Kevin Durant withdrew from consideration for Team USA.
Team USA is down to 15 finalists. The final 12 is scheduled to be selected in late August.
