Cueto leaves game at Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Cincinnati starting pitcher Johnny Cueto has left the Reds' series opener at Texas after only 29 pitches.

After Cueto threw a 1-2 pitch to Mitch Moreland leading off the second inning Friday night, catcher Devin Mesoraco went out to the mound. Cueto put the ball into the catcher's mitt.

It wasn't immediately clear why Cueto came out, but television replays showed him reacting with a strained expression on his face after throwing the pitch. It was his third start since coming off the disabled list because of a strained right shoulder at the start of June.

Before missing the first half of June, Cueto also spent more than a month on the DL earlier this season with a strained right lat.

Tony Cingrani replaced replaced Cueto on the mound.
