MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Madison Central star guard Dominique Hawkins will not make a college decision on Friday. Many people expected to Sweet 16 MVP to make his choice by the end of the week.
WKYT's Dave Baker spoke with Madison Central coach Allen Feldhaus Friday morning, who said Hawkins wouldn't be making any announcement until after Central's spring break next week.
Baker says it leads him to believe that Calipari is still unsure of who's leaving the UK roster, who's returning and who might still be joining the Cats.
The winners of the Mr and Miss Basketball awards will be announced Friday night in Louisville and Hawkins is thought to be the big favorite to be named Mr. Basketball.
Earlier this week, the UK speculation with Hawkins hit a fever pitch when Calipari went to Richmond to meet with the guard personally after watching him from courtside during three of his Sweet 16 games at Rupp Arena.
Hawkins, who has made no secret of the fact he's a UK fan, reportedly has scholarship offers from Western Kentucky, Morehead State, South Carolina and Purdue.
Thursday, Feldhaus told the Louisville Courier Journal, "He's not going to decide anything until Kentucky tells him one way or the other," Feldhaus said. "Based on what (Calipari) tells us, he'll move on from there. Most of those (other coaches) understand, that he's a Kentucky boy. Most of the coaches understand that."
