CHICAGO – Eastern Kentucky University senior Marcus Lewis has advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 “State Farm Dark Horse Dunker” Facebook competition. The winner of the Facebook contest will compete at the State Farm College Slam Dunk Championship held in Dallas during the 2014 Final Four.
Lewis received more votes than any other second round competitor. He needed every one of them to edge Mike Kaufman from Lesley University. Kaufman has a large and active fan following. He earned more votes in round one than any other competitor.
The semifinal round runs through Monday, March 10.
Fans determine the winner by voting daily on Facebook (http://bit.ly/1iRTWBR) throughout the five-week competition. The “State Farm Dark Horse Dunker” competition is a bracket-style elimination competition.
Voting began Feb. 10 with 16 finalists. The semifinals feature two head-to-head matchups. Voting for the finals begins March 10. The champion will be announced March 17 and compete in Dallas on April 3. Fans can view a video of each dunker and cast their vote at http://bit.ly/1iRTWBR.
Lewis is a 6-foot-4 guard. The Streamwood, Ill., native has left Colonel fans in awe with his spectacular dunks during his two seasons in maroon and white. His alley-oop dunk last season at Southeast Missouri climbed to No. 3 on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top-10 Plays, was a finalist for GEICO Play of the Year and advanced to the finals of the HoopsManefesto.com Dunk of the Year Tournament.

The “State Farm Dark Horse Dunker” competition and the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships are produced by Intersport. The 2011 winner of the “State Farm Dark Horse Dunker” contest – Jacob Tucker (Illinois College) – went on to win the Slam Dunk Championship.
