UK fans welcomed Cats back home at Blue Grass Airport

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Big Blue Nation showed up at the airport to welcome their team back on home turf. About 100 UK fans gathered at Blue Grass Airport.

Many of those fans waited and anticipated the team's return for more than an hour at the airport. They fly in right before 10 p.m. on Sunday night. Several fans told us it's a tradition for them to wait for the team's arrival at Blue Grass Airport. They tell us they wanted to thank the team and congratulate them and say they would have been here to do the same even if they lost.

But since they did beat Michigan, UK fans are even more excited to be here and see the team as they got out of their plane. All of the players greeted their fans through the fence. Several chants were about the Final Four and cheering on Willie Cauley-Stein, who got off the plane in crutches. And a big crowd followed behind as the team left in a bus.

"This was so exciting. We love the Cats!" said Dana Brooks, a UK fan. "We were so excited for the win! Final Four!"

"I've been coming to this for so many years, and it never changes. It's always a different feeling each time. And it's just overwhelming," said Jeremy McGaughey, another UK fan at Blue Grass Airport.

Cats fans say they'll be back out here to welcome them back home from Dallas if they win or lose.
