Football recruit Matt Elam picks University of Kentucky

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky football's main recruiting target Matt Elam says he will attend the University of Kentucky.

The five-star defensive tackle out of John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown was deciding between UK and the University of Alabama.

Recruiting Elam was a big push by UK football Coach Mark Stoops and his staff as the teenager was one of the biggest recruits both literally and figuratively in the state of Kentucky in a decade.

"He's deciding between Kentucky, his home school, and Alabama, arguably the best program in the country," said Kentucky Sports Radio announcer Matt Jones before Elam's announcement. "Mark Stoops has gone toe to toe with one of the best programs in America for one of the state's best players. And if he gets him, it's a huge step in what they're doing."

The announcement follows consecutive 2-10 seasons for the Kentucky Wildcats.
