Former Bengal offers to buy unsold tickets

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Facing the possibility that Cincinnati's playoff game will be blacked out in its home markets this weekend, former Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson has a solution that could help the team's fans see the game on television.

Johnson tweeted on Wednesday that he would buy the remaining unsold tickets so the Bengals would avoid a blackout.

When the team announced mid-week that nearly 8,000 seats remained unsold, Johnson posted on Twitter, "I'll get the rest."

One Cincinnati TV station estimated the cost would set Johnson back more than $900,000.

The Bengals face San Diego on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 on WKYT.

It's the first time the two teams have faced each other in the playoffs since the 1981 AFC Championship Game, which was nicknamed the "Freezer Bowl."

The Bengals are searching for their first playoff win in 22 years, the longest playoff drought in the NFL.
