Former Georgetown offensive coordinator headed to Morehead

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Craig Mullins, who has 20 years of college football coaching experience, has been hired as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Morehead State.

“Craig has coached at the college level for the past 20 years, and we’re excited about adding someone to our staff with that kind of experience,” Head Coach Rob Tenyer said. “He is a high-quality recruiter and has very good ties to the high school programs in the state of Kentucky.”

Mullins has been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgetown College (Ky.) for the past 16 seasons, where he helped the Tigers to a 155-36 record (.812).

Georgetown won two NAIA national championships (2000, 2001) and was a four-time national finalist (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) during his tenure. Mullins also served as the program’s head strength coach and was a professor of kinesiology.

Mullins was named the 2011 American Football Coaches Association NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year and 1999 AFCA’s NAIA Coordinator of the Year. He also coached the Mid-South Conference and NAIA Player of the Year from 1999-2001.

“Craig was involved with a very successful program at Georgetown, where his teams won back-to-back NAIA national titles,” Tenyer said. “I know he and our other coaches will help bring that championship mentality back to our program here at Morehead State.”

Prior to his arrival at Georgetown, Mullins served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at California University (Pa.) from 1993-96. He also worked as an assistant coach at Ryle High School (Ky.) in 1992 and 1996.

In 2004, Mullins was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.

Mullins was a four-year letterwinner at Georgetown from 1987-90. As a player, he was a three-time all-conference selection and two-time Academic All-American.

Mullins earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown in 1991, before going on to earn a master’s and certification in special education from California (Pa.).

A native of Ft. Thomas, Ky., he and his wife, Heidi, have two sons, Cade and Coy.
