Former high school athlete killed in Perry County crash

A former high school basketball player is dead and his brother in critical condition after a bad crash in Eastern Kentucky.

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A former high school basketball player is dead and his brother in critical condition after a bad crash in Eastern Kentucky.

The crash happened Thursday night on KY 15 in the Bonnyman community of Perry County.

State Police say 19-year-old Scott Blank and his brother, 23-year-old Andy Blank, both of Hazard were ejected from the car they were riding in after it overturned and hit a tree.

Both were air lifted to UK Hospital, Scott Blank died from his injuries, Andy Blank is listed in critical condition.

Scott Blank played basketball and baseball at Buckhorn High School. He graduated in 2012.

"There's not a plan or a protocol for something like this, you just kind have to experience and go with your heart a lot of times and the main thing is always try to do right by the family," said Buckhorn basketball coach John Noble.

Noble says he's known both young men since they were small children and eventually coached them in high school.

"They were just so smart that you had to be a better coach to coach them, because a lot of time they saw new stuff that i didn't know or see," he said. "They challenged you as a coach to be better."

State police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
