MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Ty Proffitt, who graduated from Morehead State in May with a bachelor’s degree in finance and cumulative 3.79 grade-point average, has been named to the 2011-12 National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court for academic achievement.

Proffitt earned several academic awards during his college career. He was a Dean’s List member each semester at MSU, three-time NABC Honors Court honoree, two-time Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient and won the prestigious OVC Scholar-Athlete Award in 2010-11.

A native of London, Ky., Proffitt was also involved with several community projects during his time at Morehead State. He was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, worked with Relay for Life, addressed elementary school students and gave leadership speeches at basketball camps.

A 6-foot-4 guard, Proffitt started all 33 games for the Eagles in 2011-12. He averaged 9.9 points and shot 80 percent from the free-throw line while helping MSU to a third-place finish in the OVC. He reached double figures 16 times and scored a season-high 20 points against Tennessee Tech.

The Honors Court recognizes juniors or seniors at NCAA and NAIA institutions who own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and have been enrolled at least one year at their current school.
