Harris' star shines bright

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - Damien Harris of Madison Southern is one of the best football players you may have not heard of, yet! For those of you who does not know the name Damien Harris, here is your warning, number 34 is very good. "Yes, Damien Harris. He is certainly making a name for himself," says proud coach Jon Clark. "He has a passion for the game and is becoming more of a house-hold name in Kentucky and rightfully so. He's a heck of a football player and he's got a nose for the endzone." The 5-foot-10, 200-pound sophomore leads the state in rushing yards per game and has scored 36 total touchdowns (34 rushing). "Y'know, I don't want to be just the best in the state or the best in the country," stated Harris. "I want to be the best I can potentially be. So, I have to keep working hard and getting better."
Looking at Harris, he bears a striking resemblance to Herschel Walker, in the face, and in time he might look like him on the field! "He's an idol. He's (Herschel Walker) one of the best, in my opinion, one of the best running backs to ever play the game. Being compared to him is just another blessing." Walker was a punishing runner while at Georgia and during his pro career and, despite 4.4 40-yard dash, Harris likes the comparison. "That's also how I want people to look at me. I kinda want people to be a little intimidated when they see me running the ball."
Once out of every four times he touches the football, Damien Harris is scoring a touchdown. Recently, picked by one outlet, the best sophomore running back in the country. His teammates agree. "It's amazing the God-given talent he's got to play football, or any athletic sport," says offensive lineman Matt Howard. "It is absolutely amazing what he can do on the field." Clark agrees whole-heartedly. "He's the best young player I have ever coached. To see a sophomore doing some of the things he's doing, he will be special to watch the next couple of years as he grows."
