Harrow becomes eligible, could start for Cal

Lexington, Ky. (WKYT) - Point guard Ryan Harrow is eagerly awaiting his first season as a Kentucky WIldcat. After sitting out last season and developing, Harrow is projected to be in John Calipari's starting lineup.

Harrow came out of Marietta, Georgia and played one season at North Carolina State but he transferred in 2011. Last season he learned Cal's system, increased his strength, worked on his jump shot and worked on "becoming the best layup shooter" in the SEC. That's what Calipari has said he wants him to be. " He knows that I can get past a lot of people that's gonna be guarding me because I'm quick and ya know my handle. But he wants me to make sure I'm strong enough to take the bumps when I get to the basket and able to, ya know, and make a good attempt of making the shot.

Calipari has said Harrow can start at point or he could have freshman Archie Goodwin do it. Harrow believes he has Cal's confidence. "He told me that he's confident in me, and if he wasn't confident in me I wouldn't be here, so. He obviously thinks I can play the game. I think he's most concerned with the mental part, ya know, me being the vocal leader that every point guard should be.

Harrow is more use to leading by his actions rather than his words. Following along in the footsteps of all the great point guards Calipari has had is not on his mind. " I feel like I'm next in line and capable of being that next great point guard but I feel like if i think about it like that that'll be too much pressure on me. And when you've got all that pressure on you you don't do as well as when you just go out there and playing basketball."
