LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - The Miami Heat have released former Wildcat center Josh Harrellson. Monday was the deadline for NBA teams to release players with non-guaranteed contracts, otherwise those contracts would become guaranteed for the balance of the season. There is still an opportunity for Harrellson to play with the Heat. Later this week, teams can sign players to up to two 10-day contracts, without having to make a season-long commitment, a move the team could make Harrellson available should he clear the 48-hour waiver period.

Harrellson joined the defending NBA champions in September of 2012, but never was able to climb the depth chart over Udonis Haslem or Joel Anthony in the team's power rotation.

Harrellson told the Sun Sentinel: "I never think anything is a given around here," he said. "You never know what's going to happen. Just like last year, I didn't know what was going to happen, but I was blessed to get a guarantee."
