Keeneland not too small for Breeders' Cup

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - If for years it may have been thought that Keeneland was too small to host the Breeders' Cup, that's not the feeling now.

Tuesday the Breeders' Cup and Keeneland announced the track will host the World Championships for the first time in October 2015. Keeneland President Bill Thomason said it's no longer about announcing numbers and record attendence.

"It's about creating this brand of the event, creating experience for people that makes it very special." said Thomason. "Once we start talking about all those different concpets about what they're trying to achieve out of the Breeders' Cup, then all of a sudden we can do some things, very uniquely in this market, with people who understand the horse and appreciate this historic place, that I think we can make an incredible experience for a whole lot of people."

More than 7,000 premium seats will be added to the current Keeneland seating capacity for the Breeders' Cup. Total reserved seating capacity will be 21,000.

The Breeders' Cup will be held October 30-31, 2015.
