Legends top Augusta 4-2 for fifth straight

(AUGUSTA, Ga.) Elier Hernandez had three hits, and starter Cody Reed pitched five shutout innings as the Lexington Legends completed a three-game sweep over the Augusta GreenJackets with a 4-2 win Sunday afternoon. The Legends have won their last five games.

Hernandez had 10 hits in 13 at bats in the series.

The Legends scored a run in the second inning when Chad Johnson led off with a double, moved to third on a single by Hernandez and came home on a sacrifice fly by Kenny Diekroeger.

Lexington extended its lead to 4-0 with three runs in the fourth. Mauricio Ramos led off with a double. He went to third on Johnson’s single and scored on a single by Hernandez. Diekroeger’s single loaded the bases, and Johnson scored as Humberto Arteaga grounded into a double play. Hernandez later came home on a wild pitch, and the Legends led 4-0.

That score held until the sixth when Augusta got on the board on a single by Rando Moreno, a walk to Scott Price, a wild pitch and a run-scoring ground out by Rafael Rodriguez.

The GreenJackets scored their second run in the seventh inning on a double by Ryan Tuntland and a single by Randy Ortiz.

The Legends will return home to play West Virginia in the last three home games of the season. Game time Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is 7:05 p.m.
