LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK Athletics says fans waiting for Big Blue Madness tickets have set up more tents than in any other year.
Big Blue Madness is bigger than ever, breaking last year's all time record with an estimated 755 tents set up as of Thursday afternoon.
Even though there are 160 more tents this year than last, there are not more free tickets to give away.
“If you weren’t here Wednesday by five then you weren’t going to get a ticket, it was crazy,” said UK fan Tyler Holman.
Due to the record crowd, UK Athletic officials announced that not all campers will get a ticket to this year's event, especially if they weren't already in line by Thursday afternoon.
Veteran Big Blue Madness campers like Chelsea Bolton says the newbies should've known better.
“It just keeps getting more and more popular as the years go on. You just have to show up early and know that they will run out of tickets. You might have to stay out here a few more days than expected,” Bolton told us.
But whether you were the first or last in line, many campers still got the chance to meet and greet the basketball team and get a free slice of pizza.
A maximum of four control cards per tent will be issued to those camped out on Friday, Oct. 4, beginning at 2 p.m.
Fans will receive a maximum of four free tickets per control card on Saturday morning.
Fans with control cards are encouraged to begin lining up for Saturday morning’s ticket distribution between 5-6 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
All fans must be present to obtain their control cards on Friday and only one control card per person will be accepted at distribution.
All persons with control cards must be in line by 7 a.m. on Saturday.
