LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK guard A'dia Mathies is entering her senior season and she has been one of the key cogs in the surge of Kentucky women's basketball. Mathies was named SEC Freshman of the Year, SEC Player of the Year last season and is now SEC Preseason Player of the Year.
UK coach Matthew Mitchell says he expects Mathies to make it a most special year of a special career. Coming out of Iroquois High School in Louisville, Mathies has started 103 of 104 games at Kentucky and shes netted double figures 77 times.
With great quickness and the ability to put the ball on the floor, Mathies averaged 15 points per game last season. Mitchell says getting off to a bad start and letting that affect her game for the rest of the night is her only "chink". He says she can "cap off" her UK career by being consistent in practice and helping the other players with what they need.
