Meilinger to be recognized at Saturday's football game

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Former UK All-American Steve Meilinger will be recognized during Saturday's game in honor of his upcoming induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

He will become only the sixth former Wildcat inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Meilinger's induction into the Hall of Fame is long overdue. Known as "Mr. Anywhere" Meilinger split time between end, halfback and quarterback on offense. He played linebacker, end and defensive back on defense. He also punted and returned kicks during his UK career that lasted from 1951-53.

Meilinger played under legendary coach Paul Bear Bryant and Kentucky. He says the Bear used tough love with his players and he grew to respect him as a coach.

Over the years, Meilinger has kept up with UK football and thinks the program is now headed in the right direction under new head coach Mark Stoops.
