LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Mercer Co. made the most of seven Henderson Co. errors and advanced to the school's second state baseball championship in three years with a 7-2 win.
The Colonels took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With runners at the corners, Henderson Co.'s Justin Cessna stole second, allowing Kaleb Duckworth to beat the throw to the plate.
But the wheels fell off for the Colonels in the third. Mercer Co. scored six times, thanks to two Henderson Co. errors. The Colonels made seven errors in the game.
"Teams feed off of errors," Titans. coach Jeremy Shope said. "I told them, 'We have to avoid strikeouts.' There's nothing like pressure. You get nothing productive out of strikeouts."
In 2011, Mercer Co. fell to Central Hardin in the finals. The Titans will face the winner of Pleasure Ridge Park and Central Hardin.
