One Pitcher can't win World Series

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK softball coach Rachel Lawson said Wednesday it'll take more than one pitcher for a team to win the Softball World Series. Kentucky makes its first series appearance Thursday night taking on Louisiana Lafayette.

In winning the Super Regional last weekend, sophomore Kelsey Nunley pitched all three games for the Wildcats. Lawson intends to put Nunley on the mound, she's the best pitcher Kentucky has. "She keeps her velocity up, she's strong, she does what she needs to do." said Lawson.

But the UK coach stopped short of saying Nunley would go every game. "So as long as those things are happening I imagine she'll get the ball. With that said though, I don't think that any team can win the world series with one pitcher any more. I think that those days are probably over. I think that if we're going to go deep in the tournament, we are definitely going to have to go into our pitching staff. They've been in big games so hopefully it'll be o.k. But you definitely have to give Kelsey the ball as long as she can take it."

Thursday night's game will be televised by ESPN2.
