Morehead Hysteria is a success

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- More than 1,000 fans rolled into Johnson Arena on Thursday evening for a preview of the 2013-14 Morehead State men's and women's basketball seasons. The free event featured team scrimmages, a three-point shooting competition and dunk contest.
The Black team won the three-point contest before the women's team held a short scrimmage. Senior forward Drew Kelly then won the dunk competition after the men's squad conducted a short workout.

The MSU men return eight letter-winners and have added six eligible newcomers this season. Junior guard Angelo Warner (10.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.5 apg) is the team's top returning scorer.

"This was another great event," Head Men's Coach Sean Woods said. "About half of our team is new to Morehead State, so it was good to get everyone in front of our fans. We have several high-major transfers who have played in front of big crowds, but it's important to get them comfortable in our environment and facility."

The MSU women return seven players, including all five starters. Senior guard Terrice Robinson (17.5 ppg) and junior guard Almesha Jones (11.1 ppg) are both Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selections.

"I was impressed with tonight's turnout," Head Women's Coach Tom Hodges said. "We had a lot of fun, and I hope our fans did too. We have a lot of loyal fans here, and their appetite for basketball is very obvious. It's almost time to turn on the lights, pop the popcorn and lace up the sneakers. We've had a very good preseason to this point, and I'm looking forward to this final week before our first exhibition game on Nov. 1."

Season ticket packages for the 2013-14 men's and women's basketball seasons are now on sale. Call 606-783-2386 for more information.
