MOREHEAD, Ky. - Marquel Willis, a 6-foot-5 wing from Orlando, Fla., has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Morehead State men's basketball program. He will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2014-15 school year.
"We are very excited to add someone of Marquel's ability to our basketball program," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "Marquel is an awesome kid who will fit in well. He has the characteristics that we're looking for, both on and off the court."
Willis, a four-year varsity starter, entered his senior year at Oak Ridge High School with 1,227 career points. He averaged 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds for the Pioneers as a junior after averaging 16.6 points and 3.6 rebounds as a sophomore.
"Marquel is a terrific athlete who can do a lot of things, both offensively and defensively," Woods said. "He's a tough individual who plays hard. Our team plays at a very fast pace, and I believe Marquel will fit that style and tempo very well."
Willis led Oak Ridge to a Florida High School Athletic Association Class 7A State Championship Game appearance as a sophomore in 2012. He also helped the Pioneers to the FHSAA Class 7A Regional Final as a junior in 2013.
