NKU: Fired AD admits to financial misconduct

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) - The president of Northern Kentucky University says the school's fired athletic director told lawyers he spent up to $150,000 in university money for personal use and investigators have been notified.

The Kentucky Enquirer (http://bit.ly/10xj9wN ) says Geoffrey Mearns wrote to the school's Board of Regents that he notified both federal authorities and the state attorney general about what he called a pattern of financial misconduct by Scott Eaton.

Eaton was fired March 16 for having intimate relationships with four NKU employees, including two reporting directly to him, and one adult student.

Mearns says in the letter that Eaton told the lawyers he diverted $100,000 to $150,000 in university resources for personal use during the past eight years.

Before he was fired, Eaton was leading NKU's expansion into NCAA Division 1 athletics.
