LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK big man Nerlens Noel says he's enjoyed his first two months as a Kentucky Wildcat. The nation's No. 1 recruit is the centerpiece of John Calipari's latest top ranked recruiting class.
Noel and coach John Calipari sat down with WKYT in September to talk about what's ahead. The 6-10 freshman out of Everett, Massachusetts missed summer workouts at UK as he completed two high school courses. He is also under NCAA review, which Calipari says is not surprising considering he reclassified. Cal says UK is " very confident he'll be fine."
Calipari said, " He's under review which happens to a lot of the kids, especailly if you reclassified. Now there's a red flag. If you reclassified and some people around you got mad because you reclassified, then it puts another flag or two in there. But he's being reviewed and we feel very confident he'll be fine."
Noel has some catching up to do after missing workouts in June and July but he says his offensive game is coming along. "It's coming very good, I've been working on it a lot, just with my shot especially strength wise too. I think that's the part of my game that's really helped me out, just getting stronger and putting on good weight."
Noel says hes put on six to seven pounds since hes been at UK but Calipari cautions he has some catching up to do with the other freshmen. "Now that we start working with Nerlens you're seeing him move and get better and you're seeing his skills become better. But right now he's behind the other freshmen because he didn't get that work in this summer."
