Phillips announces Clemons likely to redshirt

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Sophomore tailback Josh Clemons likely will redshirt this season, that according to his coach, Joker Phillips.

Phillips made the announcement after Thursday's practice.

Clemons played in six games in 2011, before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He was limited in spring practice this year, before undergoing exploratory surgery just before the season opener against Louisville. Clemons has yet to play in 2012.

"Each week, as we get closer to mid-season, you continue to think this needs to be a redshirt year for him," Phillips said.

"Those guys at running back are playing pretty good," Phillips continued. "We're averaging four and half, five yards a carry at the running back position. The thing we need is more carries."

Phillips also said senior running back CoShik Williams did not practice on Thursday, but will make the trip to Florida. Phillips said Williams is doubtful and the Cats will start Jonathan George in the backfield.
