Poythress becoming comfortable

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- Sophomore Alex Poythress is playing his best basketball since arriving at UK. Coach John Calipari says he's becoming comfortable while playing at a high intensity.

With Poythress on the floor last weekend against UofL, Kentucky was outscoring Louisville. "When he was in the game, he gave us one more rebounder, one more defender, one more guy who could switch on pick and rolls, and he was fighting them around the goal." said Calipari. "So, they weren't getting in any easy baskets."

At the offensive end, Calipari said Poythress is now playing within himself. "The drive where it was the and-one, I mean the dunk, I'd like for him to take a couple of more jumpers. A couple one-dribble pull-ups and that jump hook in the lane, but look, he's only now becoming comfortable playing at a high pace, high rate, with unbelievable intensity and sustaining it. This is the first time in his life. So he's just getting used to it."

Uk returns to action against Mississippi State next Wednesday. Tipoff will be at 8:00 p.m. on WKYT.
