LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Manhattan coach Steve Masiello will be introduced as the next head coach at USF later this week, multiple sources told CBSSports.com.
The deal is for five years and worth more than $1 million per year.
The 36-year-old former Rick Pitino assistant took the Jaspers to this year's NCAA Tournament, where they pushed Pitino's Louisville Cardinals before losing in the Round of 64. Masiello is widely considered to be a rising star in the industry. Sources have told CBSSports.com that among those who supported Masiello's candidacy is Chris Sullivan, a co-founder of Outback Steakhouse and influential Tampa resident who is close with Pitino.
Masiello is a former UK walk-on under Pitino.
USF finished 12-20 this season, 3-15 in the American Athletic Conference.
