Saturday scrimmage important for the Cats

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky coach Joker Phillips said on Friday that he's almost ready to name a starter at quarterback. The Cats will conduct their first scrimmage of fall practice on Saturday and the coach says the workout could help speed up his decision.

"Tomorrow is very important," Phillips said after Friday's practice. "I would like, in a perfect world, for it to be over after tomorrow. I'm not sure if that will happen, but I would love to see that happen, where a guy separates himself enough."

Sophomore Maxwell Smith and senior Morgan Newton will get the majority of the snaps during the scrimmage. Freshmen Patrick Towles and Jalen Whitlow will play.

"If you don't sere rate yourself enough, that we feel comfortable with, we've got to give it another week," Phillips added. "But I would love to see one guy come out here and take charge, take control and separate himself from the pack and be done with it, so that I don't get this same question everyday."
