LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Trent Gilbert scored 29 points to lead Scott County to a 64-55 win over Johnson Central on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Kentucky boys Sweet 16 state basketball tournament at Rupp Arena.
The Cardinals (34-3) will play Louisville Trinity in the state semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The Shamrocks defeated Hopkinsville 74-56 in a quarterfinal game Friday.
Gilbert, the only Cardinal player in double figures, drained three 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the first half. Gilbert made 14 of 14 free throws, including four straight in the closing seconds to seal the win.
Johnson Central (26-7), which won the 15th Region, tied the score at 49-49 with 4:44 remaining before the Cardinals pulled away down the stretch.
