Stallworth earns WBCA All-Region team honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s basketball senior forward DeNesha Stallworth has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Region 3 All-America Team, it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

There were a total of 52 candidates named from the eight regions, all of whom will be in the running for selection to the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team. The 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team will be announced at 2:10 p.m. ET Saturday, April 5, during NCAA® Women’s Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Stallworth is joined by South Carolina’s Tiffany Mitchell and Aleighsa Welch, Tennessee’s Meighan Simmons and Isabelle Harrison and Vanderbilt’s Christina Foggie and Jasmine Lister on the Region 3 team.

A native of Richmond, Calif., Stallworth leads the team in field goal percentage (.518), field goals made (142) and steals (43), while ranking second in scoring (12.2), rebounding (6.9) and blocked shots (34). Despite missing five games due to midseason knee surgery, Stallworth has scored in double figures 20 times this season, including eight straight. The WBCA Region 3 honor joins her honors list that includes: SEC All-Tournament Team, All-SEC Second Team by the league’s coaches and All-SEC honorable mention by The Associated Press.

The selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.

Stallworth and the Wildcats will make their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 on Saturday, March 29 in South Bend, Ind., where they will face the No. 2 seed and No. 5/6 Baylor Lady Bears at Noon ET on ESPN.
