LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Coach Mark Stoops says No. 1 ranked Alabama will be a great challenge Saturday but it's something his team will embrace. Kentucky's record fell to 1-4 Saturday with a 35-28 loss at South Carolina, fighting back from an early 21-0 deficit.
At his weekly Monday news conference, Stoops seemed encouraged by the effort against the Gamecocks. "If we truly believe, if we go about our business, if we work the right way, if we prepare the right way and execute and make plays when the game's on the line, we had every opportunity to win that game." Stoops took nothing away from South Carolina. "That's a very good team, very well coached and we have a lot of respect for them. But had we done some things right, we could win that game."
Kentucky has been looking to settle on a quarterback and Jalen Whitlow went all the way behind center Saturday. " He missed some things and missed some throws, but he did some very good things as well." said Stoops. "It was nice to see him compete. It was nice to see him run, he ran hard at times, he ran physical at times and made some better decisions. So I think overall that was a real positive and it's good to see and I think it gives us a little confidence moving forward."
Kickoff with Alabama is set for 7:00 p.m. Saturday night. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
