Stoops speaks to Lexington Rotary

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Just back from SEC Media Days, UK coach Mark Stoops appeared at Lexington Rotary Thursday. He told Rotarians hes felt the enthusiam for football from the moment he arrived on campus and he said the fans are the biggest thing his program has going.

After the Cats finished 2-10 last season, Stoops has created a tremendous buzz around Kentucky football. He thanked the fans for the enthusiasm they've shown. "And really the fans have been the biggest thing thats helped us so far. because that excitement for the spring game was amazing. Our recruits feel that, our players feel that, I feel it, our coahcing staff feel that and it's so helpful, it's very motivating."

When fall camp begins in August Max Smith, Jalen Whitlow and Patrick Towles will continue their ongoing quarterback battle. Stoops said all have worked hard and have shown flashes. He said it'll be interesting to see who has done all the hard work during the summer, not only physically with lifting and running, but the work in the classroom to properly prepare to run the offense.

Speaking with reportrs afterwards, Stoops said the offense will have be be tweaked to fit the quarterback who's chosen. "Definitley, there'll be some tweaks within the game plan with that. Each of them, like you said have individual strengths and we'll have to gear it towards them." Stoops said that's also true for other players on the offense. It'll be up to him and his staff to find the best combination and be innovative in ways to move the ball.

The Wildcats report for fall practice August 4. The season opener with Western Kentucky is August 31 in Nashville.
