LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Louisville’s Charlie Strong has talked to Texas about the Longhorns’ coaching vacancy.
According to Chip Brown of Orangebloods, a Rivals web site which covers Texas, Longhorns athletic director Steve Patterson flew to an undisclosed location to meet with Strong. The research firm of Korn/Ferry, which is assisting the school in its search to replace Mack Brown, gave Strong a high recommendation.
Brown stepped down after 16 years in Austin.
Strong is 23-3 over the past two seasons in Louisville and led the Cardinals to a 36-9 win over Miami in Saturday’s Russell Athletic Bowl.
The report says Patterson also has interviewed Vanderbilt’s James Franklin and hopes to interview Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio.
