LEXINGTON, Ky. - Patrick Towles will carry a lot of weight on his shoulders this weekend. He must handle the pressure of being Kentucky's starting quarterback Saturday.
Coming of the practice field Tuesday afternoon, coach Mark Stoops said Towles needs to stay normal during the week and not put any undue pressure on himself.
"The whole team needs to play well. I expect that he will be a little bit antsy. But he's just got to calm down and stay within himself and operate the offense. And that's where it is important to get off on a fast start and give him some things that he can manage early until he gets settled in."
Towles said it's hard to stay calm but he has to prepare each day. "You can't be, ya know all excited and your mind going everywhere and 25 different places during practice, or you're not going to get anything productive done. So you've got to focus on this play that's happening right now and I'll worry about Saturday when it comes. But I'm worried about watching this film and then tomorrow's practice."
Kickoff for Kentucky's season opener with UT-Martin is set for Noon Saturday. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.
