NEW YORK (AP) - Louisville earned the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament Sunday after topsy-turvy regular season and another round of weekend upsets.
The University of Kentucky, the 2012 NCAA champions, were among the bubble teams that were passed over.
The selection committee had its work cut out after five teams swapped the top ranking in The Associated Press poll, capped by West Coast Conference champion Gonzaga (30-2) moving to the lead spot for the first time in school history.
But it is No. 4 Louisville (29-5) that leads the tournament after sharing the Big East regular-season title, then pulling off a stunning comeback to beat Syracuse in the final of the conference tournament. No. 7 Kansas (29-5) got the second top seed to be announced after defeating rival Kansas State for the Big 12 championship.
Louisville, Kansas, Indiana and Gonzaga earn No. 1 seeds for NCAA men's basketball tournament.
The Cardinals, the top seed in the Midwest Region, will play the winner of Liberty - North Carolina A&T in Rupp Arena on Thursday.
Missouri plays Colorado State in the other Midwest Region game in Lexington.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will play Kansas Friday in Kansas City.
