UK heads to NYC to play Providence

UK coach John Calipari took his team to New York city Friday.  Sunday night the Cats will play a Providence team that pushed its record to 7-1 with a 78-69 victory over Farifield Friday afternoon.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach John Calipari took his team to New York city Friday. Sunday night the Cats will play Providence, a team that defeated Fairfield 78-69 Friday afternoon.

The victory pushed the Friars record to 7-1 on the season. Bryce Cotton scored 24 points and handed out seven assists, Tyler Harris added 16. Earlier in the season Providence defeated Vanderbilt. "Good basketball team from what I saw." said Calipari. "Vandy had them down 16 and they came back and won."

Kentucky heads to New York with four straight home wins over Robert Morris, UT-Arlington, Cleveland State and Eastern Michigan. Calipari expects more of a challenge from Providence. "They run good stuff, they play hard, it's the next step up for us. It appears as though every game has been lke a stepping stone if you take out Michigan State.

UK-Providence will be televised Sunday night by Fox Sports 1. Tipoff will be at 8:30 p.m.
