UK misses first NCAA Tournament since 2009

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The 68 teams playing in the NCAA Tournament were announced on Sunday and the Kentucky Wildcats were left out of this year's field.

The Wildcats (21-11) were knocked out of the quarterfinal round of the SEC Tournament, all but assuring the Cats were on the proverbial bubble.

The last time the Cats didn't make the field was 2009, when Billy Gillispie's team beat UNLV and Creighton in the NIT.

Ironically, Kentucky failed to make the NCAA field in 1979, a year removed from a national championship.
