LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky shot 64 percent in its 79-65 victory over Providence Sunday night. Rather than launch shots from behind the 3-point arc, the Cats went inside to the post.
"We didn't shoot as many threes." said John Calipari after the game. "I told them Doran Lamb was the best 3-point shooter that I have coached and the most he would take is five. These guys are trying to get up eight threes. You can't play that way." UK made six of eight 3-point shots against the Friars.
Not shooting as many 3-pointers Calipari looked for his team to go inside. "Kenny Payne (UK assistant) has been all over me because I keep saying this is the best post-up team I've ever coached. And he said, 'well then jam it in versus the zone, quit doing all this fancy stuff.' That's what we've been working on and that's why we shot such a high percentage."
Kentucky returns to action Friday night against Baylor in Dallas. Tipoff will be at 10:00 p.m. on ESPN.
