UK permanent captains announced

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Center Matt Smith and defensive end Collins Ukwu will be permanent captains for the Kentucky Wildcats in the 2012 season.

Smith and Ukwu were voted captains by their teammates, both are seniors and both are happy to lead. "tt means a lot," said Smith. "Having grown up a Kentucky fan all my life it's just, ya know, something that a kid could only dream of. To play for his favorite team much less become a captain his senior year, so it's a huge honor for me. Especially knowing that all my teammates were the ones that voted, it wasn't even the coaches that had anything to do with it.

Ukwu said he was surprised by what happened. "It kind of shocked me a little bit because I thought it would be someone else. But Ya know it means a lot to me. I feel like my role doesn't change because I've been trying to show leadership without, ya know having a title I guess. It's just something that I guess I'll embrace more."
