KANSAS CITY, MO -- The University of Pikeville Bears carry a record of 30-2 into the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship and are the No. 2 seed. The defending NAIA national champion, Georgetown Tigers, are seeded 14th out of the 32-team tournament and bring with them a record of 22-10.
Pikeville plays Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) in the first round at 1:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 20 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. Georgetown opens play against Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Wednesday at 9:45p.m. ET.
The 19-11 Cumberlands Patriots, once ranked No. 1 in the NAIA poll, is also in the "college basketball's toughest tournament" playing the No. 9 seed Rocky Mountain of Montana. The Mid-South Conference sends four teams to the NAIA nationals with St. Catharine also meeting the No. 5 seed SAGU (Texas). SAGU was the runner-up to Georgetown in the 2013 NAIA championship.
