Sean Woods, newly named head mens basketball coach at MSU
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Luka Pajkovic, who played for Morehead State Head Coach Sean Woods as a freshman at Mississippi Valley State in 2011-12, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the MSU basketball program in 2013-14. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Pajkovic, a 6-foot-3 guard, is averaging 9.3 points as a sophomore at National Junior College Athletic Association member Brevard Community College (Fla.). He has drilled 46 percent from the field, 43 percent from three-point range and 73 percent from the free-throw line through 11 games.
“Our staff is excited about having Luka for the next two seasons here at Morehead State,” Woods said. “Luka is very familiar with the way we want to play, both offensively and defensively. Our fans will appreciate him. He’s a terrific person, quality student and talented basketball player.”
Pajkovic will be re-united with Woods and MSU Assistant Coach Brian “B.J.” Ellis, who were on the Mississippi Valley State staff his first collegiate season. The 2011-12 Delta Devils finished 21-13 overall, 17-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and played in the NCAA Tournament.
“Luka hit some big shots for us off the bench last year and definitely contributed to the success we enjoyed as a team,” Woods said. “Luka has a strong body and can play either guard position. He will help us stretch the opposing defense when we have the ball and cause chaos when we don’t.”
Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, Pajkovic averaged 21.2 points, 5.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds during his prep career at Impact Academy in Las Vegas, Nev.
Morehead State is idle this week due to first-semester final exams. The Eagles return to the court on Dec. 19 with an 8 p.m. ET contest at South Dakota
