Sean Woods, newly named head mens basketball coach at MSU

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Sean Woods Television Show debuts this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CWKYT in Lexington, Ky. It is available throughout the 2012-13 college basketball season on DIRECTV channel 14, DISH Network channel 28 and Time Warner Cable channel 99.

The first edition includes highlights from Morehead State’s games vs. LIU Brooklyn, No. 8/7 Kentucky and Lafayette (Pa.). It also features locker room footage from when former MSU quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Phil Simms recently spoke to the Eagles.

The program airs Dec. 2, 8, 16, 23, 29, Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24, March 3 and 10. The Dec. 8 show is set for 12:30 p.m. All other shows are slated for 1 p.m. David Patrick, from Morehead State’s communications & marketing department, produces and hosts the show.

The Woods Show includes highlights from previous games, insight from MSU’s head coach on upcoming contests, player profiles and special guests. Each edition lasts 30 minutes.

Woods, who previously spent time with five Division I men’s basketball programs and led Mississippi Valley State to the 2012 NCAA Tournament, is in his first season at Morehead State.

Woods led Mississippi Valley State to 50 overall wins and 44 Southwestern Athletic Conference victories from 2008-2012. The 2011-12 Delta Devils finished 21-13 overall, 17-1 in the SWAC, won the conference tournament and advanced to the school’s fifth-ever NCAA Tournament.

MVSU improved by 14 overall wins and 10 conference victories from his first season to his fourth. Woods was recognized as the 2011-12 SWAC Coach of the Year and earned the prestigious Ben Jobe Award, which honors the top minority coach in Division I men’s college basketball.

Woods, a Kentucky Athletic Hall of Famer, played in 91 games for the Wildcats from 1989-92. He was tabbed as one of the “Unforgettables” from UK’s 1992 East Regional final team after scoring 21 points against Duke in one of the NCAA Tournament’s most memorable games.

Morehead State has three more non-conference games before semester finals week on campus. The Eagles visit Horizon League opponent Wright State on Saturday at 2 p.m., before hosting North Dakota State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Indiana State next Saturday at 2 p.m.
