Chuck Smith named football coach at Madison Central

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Madison Central has named former Boyle County football coach and UK linebackers coach, Chuck Smith, as their new football coach this afternoon. Smith put Boyle County football on the map in the late 1990's and early 2000's when his Rebels were one of the dominant programs in the Commonwealth. While on the county side of "Title Town", Smith compiled a 142-33 record in 13 seasons with Boyle County. Smith's teams won Class AA state titles in 1999 and 2000 going a perfect 15-0.

In 2001, Boyle County joined the AAA ranks and continued its dominance winning championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003. During this string of title runs under Chuck Smith, Boyle County won a public school state record 47 games in a row! Smith's final season at the high school level was in 2004, losing to Highlands in the state championship.

Under Smith's guidance at Boyle County, the Rebels won five consecutive football championships and won and had a string of 29 straight playoff victories. Smith was chosen as the Kentucky Coach of the Year, covering all classifications, four times by the Louisville Courier-Journal (1999, 2000, 2001 and 2004) and by The Associated Press in 1999.

After the 2004 season, Smith was hired by the University of Kentucky to coach linebackers, where he played at UK under Fran Curci. In 2009, Smith added the title of recruiting coordinator under Rich Brooks and then later with Joker Phillips. While with the Wildcats, Smith coached numerous All-SEC and All-American players like Wesley Woodyard, Micah Johnson, Danny Trevathan, and Braxton Kelley, and Sam Maxwell just to name a few.
