Harris named Kentucky's Gatorade Player of the Year

BEREA, Ky (WKYT) - Madison Southern High School junior running back Damien Harris has been named the Gatorade Kentucky Football Player of the Year. Harris, the 5-foot-11 205-pound bundle of rushing power and speed, had 220 carries for 2,621 yards with 42 touchdowns for the Eagles in 2013. Harris, who committed to Michigan in July, rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and 39 touchdowns as a sophomore.

The Gatorade award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field.

Harris now is eligible for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award to be determined later this month.
