LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Woodford Co. is coming off a one-win season, but the Jackets are emphatic they will be drastically better than a year ago.
"Well the biggest thing for us is we have 18 starters back and 28 lettermen back," said coach Steve Sronebraker. "We've got a lot of experience returning so, that's got everybody in the community pumped up about the season and we are ready to get after it."
Woodford Co.'s offensive line is ready to push people around. They are huge and Stonebraker believes this could be his best offensive line in 14 years of coaching.
Offensive lineman Jon Morgan agrees.
"We have very physical backs, which is pretty nice, and a very physical front line. I just think we are going to be able to get out there and mess some people up."
Despite rushing for only 1,100 yards last season, it appears to be the strength in 2014. Another of the large guys up front, Nate Hill, says this team will be stronger.
"Definitely physical. The run game is a big part of our offense and we definitely want to punish the other team as much as possible. But we're not just confined to that. We have a lot of explosive playmakers on the outside. We can do a lot of things on the offensive side of the football."
For Woodford Co., success will come not just from making the playoffs, but advancing into postseason play, something which has happened only twice since 1997.
"That is something I think this team could be capable of with their ceiling. If we stay injury free and we improve as the season progresses, like we need to," Stonebreaker said.
