West Jessamine is rebuilding in 2014

WILMORE, Ky (WKYT) West Jessamine's Devin Taylor was a running machine accounting for more than 5,000 yards spanning the last two seasons, but he is gone along with a great deal of talent from 2013. "We're incredibly young," says coach Yancey Marcum. "We don't return, we don't return a kid that took a snap at wide receiver, defensive back, linebacker, running back, a new quarterback, every skill position we've got is brand new."

So that means West Jess can't rely on one guy, the Colts have to spread the wealth. Josh Preston is one of the few guys with experience. "Well, it's changed a lot to kind of 50-50 pass and run. We've got some guys who can really the catch the ball and run their routes well. So hopefully with our new quarterback who is throwing the ball pretty well, we can get the ball up in the air to some good receivers but we also have some solid running backs that can run, not as well as Devin, but can hopefully meet some expectations."

Patience is a virtue and the coaching staff is trying to do that, but it will take time for everybody involved. Marcum believes this team does have potential though. "I say really we are about four weeks out. We are about four weeks out from playing good, as long as we don't have any injuries, and keep going with the new kids we got. I think in about four or five weeks, we stay healthy, we'll be in good shape."
