LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – For nearly the past 10 years, Anderson Co. has fielded a winning football team. The Bearcats see no reason why that won’t continue.
Mark Peach’s squad has won two region titles in the past four years. To make it three region championships, he’ll have to replace a talented group of outgoing seniors from a year ago, including Mr. Football finalist Ross Cox.
"We feel like we return a pretty good nucleus, so it's going to be more by committee, so to speak,” Peach said. “ We feel like the pieces do fit pretty well."
Some of those pieces returning include quarterback Zach Carmichael, and tailbacks Chris Toomey and Ryan Martin.
"Yeah, we've got a lot of good receivers and running backs that can catch the ball,” Carmichael said. “I think it's going to be a lot more balanced and we're going to have a lot of guys with catches this year."
Anderson Co. has won 67 games in the last seven seasons and they've grown accustomed to playing around Thanksgiving. They feel with the right breaks they can do it again this year.
"I think the odds are great. We just have to stay together and we’ve got to have our seniors step up,” Brayden Russell said. “ I think the regional championship is definitely our goal."
“We feel like we are one of three or four teams that can compete for the regional,” Peach added.
