Shaw set for second season at Lafayette

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – After three straight trips to the region finals, Lafayette stumbled last year to a 3-8 record in Eric Shaw’s first season as head coach.

"Last year was very tough to deal with. We had to sit here and just get beat every other week and I think that's put a chip on our shoulder," guard Logan Kendrick said.

"The execution part of it and trusting in what we do played a big part in the 3-8 season, but I think these kids have bought into what we do and how we go about it, and we should see a difference," Shaw said.

One main difference will be several new coaches added to the Lafayette staff.

"It's just different ideas that they have for us, to just new things that we can learn," safety Mason Alstatt said.

"With this new coaching staff coming in, with the kids taking to them, and the attitude that they have, I think we have a chance to do a lot of great things," Shaw said.

"We're united like a family, and we play together and we push each other to be the best that we can be," linebacker Evan Shaw said.

With a beefed up line, stability at quarterback and improved speed, the Generals plan to march to a better season.

"This year, we're very versatile with our line being as big as they are. We are set at quarterback and know what we have behind us."

“Overall, as a group and as a team, I think we are better than what we were last year," Shaw said.
